On Friday, July 15, the Jeep® brand celebrated its 75th Anniversary in a most fitting way. As a tribute to 75 years of Go Anywhere. Do Anything.® capability and adventure, a commemorative one-of-a-kind Wrangler 75th Salute edition rolled down the the same line that has been producing Jeep Wrangler models for decades in Toledo, Ohio.

Designed as a modern interpretation of the 1941 Willys MB, the Wrangler 75th Salute concept is based on the two-door Wrangler Sport and features numerous custom design elements meant to harken back to the original Jeep 4×4. The exterior features a military-inspired olive-drab color scheme, custom hood graphics that include the Army star and the date (20160715), and bronze commemorative fender badges. With rugged functionality as its primary design focus, there are no doors or B-pillars. Simple steel front and rear bumpers with tow hooks replace the standard factory units, and 16-inch steel wheels with 32-inch military non-directional tires (with matching spare out back) put the power to the ground. Inside, low-back canvas seats continue the rugged theme.

The Jeep brand was there to follow and share the action through the Jeep Snapchat handle. We followed the commemorative Wrangler’s journey down the assembly line — adding to the Jeep brand Snap Story compilation as it progressed. From the body meeting the frame to its final roll off the line, we were able to share this special build each step of the way.

This was a unique opportunity for the Jeep brand to look back at its 75-year heritage. It was on July 15, 1941, that Willys-Overland Motor was awarded the government contract to build the first Willys MB. Since that date, “Jeep vehicles have been the authentic benchmark for off-road capability, having mastered more terrain, led more adventures and provided drivers more freedom than any other vehicle before or since,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global.

Take a look at the recap video below to experience the Wrangler 75th Salute concept’s historic ride down the assembly line. And be sure to follow all of the Jeep brand social channels, including Snapchat, as we enter our 75th year as the 4×4 brand that embodies freedom, authenticity and adventure.
