We realize that it feels like 2011 just started. Maybe it’s because for a lot of us there is still snow on the ground, or that the torrential downpours don’t seem to let up. In reality, though, it’s technically spring, so brace yourself because in just one short season the all-new 2012 Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT8 will hit a Jeep brand showroom near you.

Without sounding too cheesy we can honestly say that this is the best Jeep Grand Cherokee…ever. What makes the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 the “best ever”? Well, for one thing our engineers are getting pretty good a creating something that hits the mark for perfection. They worked tirelessly with the Chrysler Group LLC’s Street and Racing Technology team, hammering out all the details making sure that this vehicle came together seamlessly, creating the perfect blend of rugged Jeep brand qualities and smooth luxurious trappings.

We’re asking a lot of the 2012 Grand Cherokee. It’s not allowed to just look good on the lot or in your driveway; it must perform as well. And does it ever: The Grand Cherokee hits 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds, and polishes off the quarter-mile in the mid 13-second range. It hits a top speed of 155 mph, not that we recommend you try that out. Also, if you need to brake fast and hard, she’ll accommodate you, coming down from 60-0 in just 116 feet.

Equal in both beauty and brawn, this Grand Cherokee is the most powerful Jeep vehicle ever. With an all-new 6.4-liter HEMI V-8, the Grand Cherokee is capable of 465 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. All that power is nicely harnessed with adaptive damping suspension managed by the all-new Selec-Trac system, making this Grand Cherokee capable of up to .90 g on the skid pad. Also new for 2012 is an active valve exhaust system, which allows standard Fuel Saver Technology to engage over a wider rpm range for an estimated 13-percent improvement in highway fuel efficiency and 450-mile range. As if this weren’t enough we’ve also made driving just that much more pleasurable by adding standard steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.

Mike Manley, our faithful and fearless President and CEO had this to say about the all-new 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8; “…the Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the ultimate performance SUV, delivering a combination of Jeep capability and utility, world-class performance, luxury and refinement, advanced innovative technology… Jeep vehicles have long been known for their off-road capability. In addition to Jeep four-wheel-drive traction and utility, the Grand Cherokee SRT8 takes capability to a new level by giving driving enthusiasts extreme performance for the street and track.” He added, “Our new benchmark performance SUV effectively broadens the Grand Cherokee portfolio and will continue to draw new customers into Jeep showrooms.”

Well said Mike, well said.

Now, as those around you are prepping for summer with a full regiment of crunches, spray tanning, and beach attire shopping you can be prepping by visualizing yourself in the 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8. Imagine yourself sliding into the race inspired interior, gripping those paddle shifters, and driving off into the summer sunset. Grab you calendar and start counting down the days, it will be here before you know it.

If you guys would make a truck for a daily work truck and weekend play toy I would trade in my dodge 4×4 . my dodge is very good and I like it ok . but a new jeep truck would be very cool . my uncle has a 57 jeep cab over pick up truck and it turns heads every where he goes .

Will the srt8 jeep have an adjustable suspension?

does the selection for snow just change the traction control or does it adjust suspension also?

  • Roc

Type pffft they should have put that engine in the wrangler 4 door with pipes.

  • Bill

The wheels are horrible. The last SRT-8 wheel was awesome, this one is crap. PLEASE change the wheel prior to selling these Jeeps!

  • Michael

I don’t see the Trail Rated badge…I hope it is

  • Michael

Now we need this engine in the Wrangler. Even the 5.7 Hemi will work!

What kind of mpg does this new jeep expect?….

  • CS

Nikos, this thing will likely be a monster on the aftermarket. The last Jeep SRT8 had many options to add power, aspirated or with power adders. I suspect with a tune alone, you’ll be able to squeeze 530HP out of that engine, since that’s what the Mopar crate motor of that size comes rated at. I can’t wait to see what centri and posi supercharger kits will do to this, let alone any turbo kits that may come along. It’ll make > 600HP, easy. I just wonder if the transmission or the engine internals will be the first weak point in this version.

  • Bob

This car is not made for the garage….It is a beast to be out of the corral…Awesome and it does look astounding…

  • Derf

Where do I sign up, can’t wait to drive this beast

  • rav

guys its Chrysler…stop getting excited over this, and with gas prices going up to $ 5 gallon, good luck JEEP. its like driving heavy peace of metal on road

  • luis

and when exactly is this beast coming out to the market?

  • jjsrt8

i must say the interior made me want one but were is jeep getting these performance numbers from because my 2007 GC SRT8 does 0-60 in 4.5 and a 1/4 in13.20s stock! o ya not impressed by the way the car looks like mine better we will see if the new one is as RAW as mine

    • jjsrt8

      to jeep

  • Dreaming’12 GC SRT8

Awesome job Chrysler, flippin bad a’ Jeep. Still miss the center exhaust but not bad.Does the ’12 SRT8 really go slower than the older ones? Wish it was faster.

  • jjsrt8

This is the worst blog I have ever been on and this is jeep’s actual blog what a joke!!!

  • Marie

I’ve been reading about the SRT8 online and it look great with lots of power. Maybe I’ll actually have to check it out at the Royal Gate dealership.

  • Turki Bajeel

A question to the designer of this car SRT8 2012 : Why was the change the location of dual exhaust in the previous model of the privileged place in the center and which distinguishes car by SRT8 to be in aspects?

  • Pablo Martinez

What is going to be the base price? are there any upgradeable features? can you send us more info??? we really like it so far…

  • Chris

The change of the loaction of the center port for exhaust was so the truck could function for towing……can’t have a trailor hitch if the exhaust is there! As for power…..I am betting this thing is underrated.

  • Alex argyros

To those of u who say it’s a Chrysler.. ( I would never buy a Chrysler) it’s really a Mercedes. I own a e550 2011. Steering wheel buttons vents in dash and it’s underpinnings are Mercedes. Don’t forget when this car was designed and engineered Mercedes still owned Chrysler !! So ur getting a German car for 20 grand less!!!!! Now if they drop the 7speed in there I’m ordering!!!!!!!!

  • Jake

So does anyone know when the 2012 Jeep SRT8 will be available for purchase or order?

  • arty

I heard that for the first year (the 2012 model) the SRT8′s will have the 5 or 6 speed auto trans. unsure which, but then they will all have an 8 speed auto. So you got more than you bargained for!!

  • wayne

sorry but stylistically im not impressed… i think jeep took a step back. when they launched the first model it jumped out at you and had a huge presence on the road. There was no mistaking an srt8 with a laredo. Now it seems they wanted to make everyone happy (who in the hell bought the old srt to tow a trailer? come on!) the old rims were solid to and now they are just eh! you would be hard pressed to find anyone who modified the old model including the rims. the first time around it seems the design team was allowed free artistic reign and this time around maybe not. i’m so dissapointed

  • wayne

Sorry but to the suits at chrysler, get out the way and let the design team design. the old srt8 had the dna of a hotrod while this new look just comes off like a sport edition laredo. it almost reminds me of a denali version of a gmc truck and does not go far enough to recapture the essence of the first edition and that rebelious spirit it had

    • jjsrt8

      WORD!!!

  • Chuck

This Jeep does not know what it wants to be…An off roader or an active family weekend vehicle. I believe they are leaning to the later as I just don’t see this thing becoming the tricked out off road vehicle we have all come to expect and depend on. The body style actuality looks (from the pix) less gangster / rugged and more ready for the hip-hop crowd for a Friday night gathering.

  • Mike Williams

    Pricing? And availibility?

    • Jeep

      Hi Mike,

Pricing of and availability of the 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 has not yet been released, but stay tuned.

      Thanks,

      Jeep®

  • RJ

I’ll answer for the Jeep employee who was unable to provide: Per a Chrysler employee working on the Jeep SRT8, provided via a web forum, Pricing will not be available until July 18, 2011 when production begins. Jeep SRT8 ordering has already began in Canada, order banks open in USA approximately 6-8 June 2011.
