Great things are happening here at the Jeep® brand. Earlier this month we got together with our friends at Activision and Call of Duty® when we bounced from the Motor City to sunny Southern California for Call of Duty® XP, the ultimate fan celebration for the blockbuster gaming franchise. While there, we were able to squeeze more information out of Chris Ellis, Head of Product Marketing for Jeep, who announced the 2012 Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 Edition Wrangler. Chris shared the concept for the new Modern Warfare® 3 Special Edition, explaining that the brains at the Jeep brand wanted to take last year’s Call of Duty® Black Ops edition to the next level—which is exactly what they did, creating a winch-ready bumper for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Edition that has never been on a production Jeep brand vehicle. The rear bumper is off-road ready, as is the rest of the vehicle, complete with Rubicon wheels and tires. In Chris’s words, “It’s awesome.” Check out the rest of our chat with Chris Ellis below.
Q. What details can you share with us about the 2012 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Edition?
A. Last year was great, but we wanted to do more. We wanted to make the toughest-looking Jeep vehicle and working with the engineers and designers, I think we’ve accomplished that. We have a unique winch-ready bumper that we’ve never had on a production Jeep 4×4 before, we have a unique rear bumper that is an off-road performance bumper. The hood is unique – so we’ve changed major elements of the appearance and improved upon the performance of the vehicle.
Q. What makes the 2012 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Edition vehicle so special?
A. I think there are three main things that make this vehicle special: The fact that it ties in with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, the equipment on it – from the front and rear bumpers to the hood. Finally, the fact that this vehicle is a limited edition makes it special to consumers. I have a feeling they will become even more valuable down the road as they sell out.
Q. Do you play Call of Duty?
A. I play with my sons, though they destroy me. I don’t last very long, but it is very fun. It’s a very engaging game…too engaging. You start playing it and you don’t really want to stop.
We’re glad Chris was excited about the event, and we were too, especially because we got to see the unveiling of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Edition and take part in all the other awesome activities that Call of Duty XP had to offer. While there, we tested out the zip line, got messy on the paintball course, and took part in a few Q&A sessions with Call of Duty designers and voice actors. Most exciting though was our drive through the Jeep Ops Experience in our favorite Jeep brand vehicles.
Jeep brand fans waited in line for up to five hours to experience a real-life adaption of a playable level in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 game that releases worldwide this November 8th. In the passenger seat next to professional stunt-drivers fans literally went inside the game facing obstacle courses and danger at every turn. It was a rough ride, handled smoothly by the MW3.
