blog name my ride Enter Jeep® Brand Vehicles Name My Ride Contest news photoWant to put your namesake on our nameplate? Enter the Jeep® “Name My Ride” contest at jeep.com/namemyride — customize your ride, name it, and then share with friends. If your vehicle name is selected you’ll win a brand new 2012 Grand Cherokee.

Jim Morrison, Director of Jeep Brand Marketing, unveiled the “Name My Ride” production-intent concept model at the Houston Auto Show on January 25, 2012. “Jeep has the the most enthusiastic customers and owners who like to customize their vehicles,” he said. “We listened.” Morrison pointed out the glossed black wheels and “hunkered-down” roof rack. “It looks like a BAD Jeep,” he added.

Based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo X package, the model includes standard leather-trimmed seats, heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, a 9-speaker 506 watt amp sound system with subwoofer (which Morrison says will “blow your ears off”), iPod/MP3 connectivity, Parkview™ rear back-up camera, ParkSense® rear-park assist system, Keyless Enter-N-Go, Chrysler Group’s Uconnect hands-free communications system, and more than 50 advanced safety and security features.

The aggressive, sleek design features distinctive yet stealthy exterior cues, including a unique platinum-chrome front-end appearance and black-gloss 20-inch wheels and exterior treatments. The vehicle’s grille surround appears in Black, and mesh grille texture in Platinum Chrome. A Platinum Chrome lower fascia applique´ completes the unique front-end appearance. Black headlamp bezels and a Black liftgate light-bar continues the “blacked-out” theme throughout the vehicle’s exterior.

The Jeep brand will compile “Name My Ride” contest entries and narrow them down to three favored choices. Consumers will then have the opportunity to vote online for the winning name, to be announced in May. The person who submits the chosen, official vehicle name will win a new 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Where can I read the technical descriptions of both front and rear suspension systems? e.g. is the rear system now independent, and if so, what type? How many valves per cylinder does the V-6 engine have? Does it have direct injection? You do not show the details of either the engines or the suspension systems of your vehicles – why

Do you know what’s going on with the contest? Originally, voting on the finalists was to start on March 5th, then it was changed to March 8th (yesterday), but the finalists still are not posted and there is no voting.

I’m excited to see what three names we have to choose from.

I can not help but wander why some people do out out rages even crazy stunts with their jeeps. You Tube / Facebook / etc..post some of these videos. Some videos are dumb. And some are dumber.
The one common thing I noticed is that Jeeps are engineered very, very well.
I like the Jeep Yeti. I hope who ever win it does not try any crazy stunts.

Wow.. the choices were kind of LAME… did they just pick the first ones they came across? Obsidian is ok.. but MIDNITE? ALTITUDE? How did those conform to the requirements? How do the relate the ‘brand identity’ and an capture the essence of the vehicle?

The “name my ride” contest had some problems from the start. Was anyone ever notified when the voting was the begin? The 3 names they selected were supposed to be creative, follow the jeep brand image, and be original. The three names they selected offer none of what Jeep was seeking. This is a huge embarrassment for Jeep!!

Exactly Craig… I agree with the next poster… how is midnite CREATIVE or ALTITUDE original or creative? How do they relate at all to the Jeep brand image or anything remotely related to a car? I wish they would publish the list of all the names they received.. I bet there were some really good ones that were submitted.

No kidding……….what LAME choices to choose from……….how origianl is MIDNIGHT and ALTITUDE.  I submitted for the NYC backdrop “Turf-Boss” as a name.  Sounds a lot more original than Midnight.  Turf can imply either ground or the city gangsta area. And Boss….for intimidation……………… Picked a nice mean looking black jeep w/ the headlihgts on.  This contest was a joke!  I hope Obsidian wins because it’s also the name of a company founded years ago in CA.  Jeep will get a big copyright lawsuit if it’s chosen. LOL !!

It almost makes you wonder if the ‘winners’ somehow have an ‘in’ to the members on the name picking board :-) That is how lame at least 2 of the choices are!

The new Grand Cherokee deserved a hot name for the new twist the concept vehicle was expressing. I think something like….KNIGHTHAWKER or REVERE would sell the idea of bold and exciting.  Obsidian is interesting as a name, but it doesn’t seem to fit JEEP, or is it me?   I love JEEP and all it represents and thought the new model name would be edgier.  I love the concept vehicle.  I wish I could afford one.

Type your comment here…I entered quite a few names. Any one would have been a better choice [as I'm sure there were many others] then the three chosen. These three names do not begin to represent the integrity of the JEEP brand. They don’t entice me to buy.  I drive a midnight? I drive a obsidian? I drive a altitude? I DON’T THINK SO!!  TOOOOO EMBARRASSING!! I would like to feel proud when I say the name  of the vehicle I drive, therefore, I CHOOSE NOT TO VOTE FOR ANY OF THE THREE NAMES.

Excellent reply, you got it right. Jeep needs to do something about this contest—I drive a rock only at high places during the am hours only?

Type your comment here..I think JEEP should have published all the names submitted and let the public choose the best one. After all, WE are the ones who worked hard to find and submit the names and WE are the ones who buy the vehicles. Just my opinion. Anyone else agree?

It’s doubtful jeep ever got any names, did you receive the email notification that the voting had begun? Not that difficult to realize that something went wrong–with the delays and all. On the rules page there is a company that was responsible for the contest–I believe they are the culprits!

Type your comment here…This is definitely BULLSHIT!!! Midnight…Altitude…and what is an Obisidian or where in the Caribbean is this quaint get-a-way?
This is a ”Bernie Madoff”  scam to get millions of e-mail addresses in order to send the fibrous puke of Jeep and Chrysler. Excuse me… I have to take a dump.

The winner will not be Mark Johnson in Sanger, CA.  Jeep will not find Mark J at that address, or contact information.  That info was made up.  The second highest scorer in the final three entries will probably be the ultimate winner, but the rules do not require the vehicle to be awarded at that point.

    What was I thinking!
